Food was in short supply during the First and Second World Wars of the past century which drove people to their own backyards for a creative gardening outlet and a sense of community. The pandemic gardening was in many ways a search for something real and tangible outside of the time spent on-screen. Even a window-sill crammed with jars of jasmine, sage, hot peppers and herbs provided an immense sense of gratification.
